Who is responsible?
The controller is KAISERSLAUTERN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH (Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirchengemeinde Kaiserslautern) e.V., Karpfenstraße 7, 67655 Kaiserslautern, Germany. The association’s joint representation is set out in the legal notice. Send privacy enquiries to Nathaniel.Jensen@lcms.org or use the postal address above.
Hosting and technical logs
The website is hosted in Germany by Hetzner. To deliver a page, the server processes technical connection data, including your IP address, the requested address, date and time, browser information and response status. Technical server logs support secure operation, troubleshooting and defence against misuse.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in providing a reliable, secure website. Hosting providers process data on our behalf under the applicable data-processing arrangements. Logs are kept only as long as necessary for these purposes; information needed to investigate a security incident may be retained while that incident is addressed.
Language choice and editor cookies
The necessary kelc_language cookie remembers a language you choose for one year so that the website can honour that preference. It is not used for tracking. You can remove it through your browser settings and still use the explicit English and German page links.
WordPress login cookies are used for editors signing in to administer content, not as an account requirement for readers. They maintain authenticated sessions and the security of the editing area. Their duration depends on the session and login settings, including whether the editor chooses to remain signed in.
Storage and access necessary to provide the requested language function or editor login take place under § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG. Associated personal-data processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in providing the selected language and secure editorial access.
No analytics, remote fonts or automatic maps
We do not use analytics or marketing tracking. Fonts are hosted on our own server. Maps, email links and external resources are links rather than automatically loaded third-party embeds. Following an external link connects you to its provider, which then processes data under its own privacy notice. An email link opens your chosen email application.
When you email us
We process your email address, message and any information you provide to answer your enquiry. Article 6(1)(b) GDPR applies where the enquiry concerns a contractual relationship or steps you request before entering one; for other enquiries, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR applies to our legitimate interest in responding to correspondence.
Please do not send sensitive personal information in an initial email. Religious beliefs and health information may require additional protection under Article 9 GDPR. If such information is needed for pastoral care, we will clarify an appropriate communication method and the applicable legal basis with you.
Correspondence is retained for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry and meet applicable legal obligations. Please ask if you need details about the handling of a particular message.
Your rights
Subject to the applicable conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You may object to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation. Where processing rests on consent, you may withdraw it at any time for the future.
You may complain to a data protection supervisory authority, including the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Rheinland-Pfalz, Postfach 30 40, 55020 Mainz, Germany. Contact information and complaint guidance are available at datenschutz.rlp.de.
